Derek Vammus will make his national debut back in the Canadian Thunder Series in the upcoming double header Parts Canada Superbike Championship round
being held at Mosport International Speedway, July 19 and 20.
Vammus heads back to the class on a familiar brand as he will be riding a 2008 Ducati 848. Vammus is no stranger to the Canadian Thunder class and
Ducati. In 2002 Vammus won the first Regional Canadian Thunder Race held on the Pro Circuit at Shannonville Motorsport Park. For that race his mount
was a Ducati 900SS Super Sport. In 2005 Vammus raced the full National Thunder circuit on a Ducati 1000SS Super Sport. That season he won the opening
round at Shannonville Motorsport Park setting a lap record that stood for 2 years. Vammus battled for a tight championship and finished in 3rd place
just short of the points. Following that season in 2006 Vammus moved to the 'Canadian Factory' Ducati squad riding a Ducati Paul Smart PS1000LE.
Despite early season regional race wins and a lap record that still stands Vammus struggled to come to terms with the PS1000 at the Nationals.
Still he scored a podium at Mt. Tremblant and finished the championship in the top 4.
Last year Vammus split his efforts contesting the National Suzuki SV650 Cup, and at the regional level battling for the Heavyweight Championship on an
NCR/Ducati Milona. He was rewarded with 3 National Victories and runner up in the National Championship. In the regional series Vammus recorded more
Shannonville victories and lap records. In the end another runner up finish was scored in the Heavyweight Championship.
This year, while waiting for the 'Thunder' to develop, Vammus continued to race the SV650. A regional victory at Shannonville and a National 5th place at
Calabogie wrapped things up.
Now Vammus has set his sights on the Factory teams in the hotly contested National Thunder Series. Buell, BMW, KTM and Ducati who all support the series
field factory supported teams. "There are four factory squads, with two riders per team. They are all top-notch riders with good teams. I'm looking forward to
battling with them."
Vammus' program is a true privateer/ family effort with Vammus at riding duties, and a crew made up of Father Andy, wife Lisa, and Mother Nita. Vanessa,
Vammus' 7-year-old daughter, wraps it all up with the cheering section.
A lot of time tested loyal sponsors as well as some new ones sponsor the effort.
The team would like to thank Vammus Racing, Peninsula Import Ducati, Kingcom Media, DP Brakes, The Electric Lift Truck Company, Hindle, Flexi-Glass, GoLo
Racing, I.C.E., Performance Under Gear, and Eurocorsa Performance for this opportunity.
See you at Mosport for final races both Saturday July 19 and Sunday July 20th. (Visit www.cdnsuperbike.com and www.vammusracing.com )
