This past weekend Team Vammus Racing got the season rolling at the RACE Superseries Test Days at Shannonville Motorsports Park.
Saturday's test was held on the Fabi Circuit while Sunday was held on the Nelson Circuit. The weather was very cool, but conditions held up enough to enable some very productive testing.
The team got right down to finding the ideal set-up for the Ducati 1098. Some excellent progress was made as the team found the 1098 very responsive to change. Derek turned a great number of laps, spending the majority of time adjusting his riding style to suit the high horsepower motor. "Riding a superbike is obviously a lot different then other bikes I've ridden. It takes so much more energy and you have to use your body core much more to steer the bike and relax your grip on the bars. Seeing that the front wheel wants to loft on acceleration you're steering with the back wheel a lot of the time and too much input on the bars makes the front wheel unstable. It's a blast to ride!" Over the weekend lap times continually improved with each adjustment.
The team considered this Annual April test to be the most successful and productive in years. We are excited about the prospects of the season which opens in less than two weeks with Round One of the RACE Superseries, at Shannonville Motorsports Park Fabi Circuit on May 1st to 3rd. The team also had some interesting sponsorship discussions during the test and we hope to make announcements about that shortly.
